Culture through the lens of food

Event Recap: Swahili Tacos

Event Recap: Swahili Tacos

The Jikoni Los Angeles studio hosted Jocelyn Salala as she shared her Tanzanian food & culture in a hands-on cooking class where tacos got an East African spin using farmer’s market-fresh ingredients. We learned how to easily make the beloved Nyama Choma (roast meat) at home with Mbuzi (goat) while jamming to the tunes that currently are occupying the Tanzanian radio waves.

The full menu included goat nyama choma, picked kachumbari, ugali tortillas, and vegetable pilau.

This class was a part of Jikoni’s on-going event series that highlights the food of the African Diaspora.

In Swahili, Jikoni means kitchen. At our core, that’s what we are. A space to cook, to share, to create.
