East African Street Chili Powder Recipe (Pilipili Mwitu)

It’s so quick and easy to make homemade Pilipili Mwitu. It is a spicy chili blend that is paired with most of East Africa’s classic street food, from our seasonal sweet and sour mangoes to roast corn and steamed cassava. Its bright well-balanced flavor brings out the best in any roasted or barbecued dish.
¼ cup red chili flakes
¼ cup of salt
1 tablespoon dried mixed herbs
1 tablespoon of smoked paprika
1 teaspoon of lemon zest
1 teaspoon of granulated sugar
- Pour your teaspoon of sugar into a spice grinder and grind into a powder consistency.
- In the spice grinder, add all your remaining ingredients and grind until all the ingredients are fine and well combined.
- Serve with lemon halves for chili application
