
Savory West African Chips
This simple recipe is on our snack rotation because we can whip it up in no time, it’s a crowd-pleaser, and it’s hard to resist a crunch like that. These chips satisfy those waiting-on-dinner-to-finish-cooking munchies. Spiced with nutmeg and onion, this chip is a unique bite of flavor.

Description
A popular West African snack that can be enjoyed alone or with spiced peanuts.
Ingredients
400 grams of all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
70 grams of butter at room temperature
1 ½ teaspoon of blended onions
200 ml of water
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, mix together 400 grams of flour, 1 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt
- Add the butter at room temperature till the mixture becomes crumbly. (Adviseable to rub it together with your palms)
- Add 1 ½ teaspoon of blended onions
- Make a well at the center, and gradually pour in the water whilst mixing until a dough forms
- Turn dough out onto a clean, floured work surface. Use a rolling pin to roll out thinly into a rectangle
- Use a knife to cut into stripes
- Deep fry in oil for 6 minutes until golden
- Let cool and serve
Notes
Blended onions can be substituted with onion powder
Vegan and non-vegan butter can be used
